Our Harlem Renaissance Program Module brings the vibrant spirit of the early 1900s Jazz Age through dance, culture, and history. Each class combines movement, etiquette, and interactive activities to celebrate this transformative era in NYC's history.
INTRODUCTION TO HARLEM RENAISSANCE DANCES
Students learn the "basix" of Swing, Foxtrot, Charleston, and Tango — iconic dances rooted in the Jazz Age and Harlem Renaissance.
ETIQUETTE THROUGH PARTNER DANCING
Partner dance reinforces social courtesies and polite behavior, teaching students to lead with respect and follow with confidence.
HARLEM RENAISSANCE CULMINATING CELEBRATION
The program concludes with a Black History Month/Harlem Renaissance Finale to showcase student learning and growth.
MULTICULTURAL AND MULTIMEDIA LEARNING
Videos, music, and brief cultural discussions that deepen students’ understanding of and appreciation for the historical and artistic context.
"FUNWORK" TO KEEP MINDS MOVING
Light, engaging assignments invite students to bring learning beyond the classroom and share the experience with family members.
